i think that honor and good manners have been on the way out in society as a whole for a long long time. the internet just accelerates it because there is generally no real recourse i.e. getting your teeth knocked down your throat for being an arse.
this generation has been raised on the dr spock/dr phil you are special and unique and everything you do is wonderful, over coddle kids dumb down standards, you have to try really hard to fail in most schools anymore because political correctness has told us that failing is bad for self esteem.
we have the high speed internet, pay per view movies on demand, fast food mindset, and so many games that embrace that by leading you around by the nose and holding your hand and making games so easy and dumbed down. thankfully eve does not do those things, but people still embrace their inner yarrr and eve amps it because there is few real consequences for your overall behavior. lie cheat steal all ok in eve, but you do not die, you wont get sent to jail or arrested, you can make disposable alts to do most of your dirty work then fade into another character.
eve continues to grow after so many years, and ccp caters to a wide range of interest. tho you certainly get alot of the what i like to call the EQ1 mindset, the people that want the hardest of the hardcore, to make a game so harsh only a few niche hardcore players would ever be bothered to play long enough to not be a noob or get anywhere period.
but eve has been proclaimed dead dying and gone so many times over the years, if you really are as old as you say and read the forums over the years the sky is always falling if it is in reguard to t2 stuff, new ships, ambulation, nerfs, buffs, missions. low sec, hi sec, mass stupidity something is always leading to the death of eve.
yet eve continues to grow, continues to improve more than it fails. sets new online records. has thriving market and allows hardcore and softcore players to play the way they want as long as they use their brains.
there are not too many mmos out there that do not lead you down a path or one or two paths, eve allows you to do whatever you want, be it trade, industry, pirating, mining, scamming, missioning. that is part of the strength of eve and maybe part of its weakness. some people just arent used to using their minds to figure out what they want to do in a game they just want to be lead down a path.
